Erin + Colin’s engagement photography session took place on the side of the road by a lake and let me tell you, it was the most beautiful spot to shoot in. When I heard E+C wanted to incorporate a telephone pole in their session, I knew this one would be unique. Big props to Colin for finding the location and for Erin sending me photos and her seal of approval, because this beauty by the side of the road was perfect!

I had so much fun with Erin, Colin, and Ellie (their pup) that I now cannot wait for their wedding at the Berkeley Oceanfront in Asbury Park. It’s going to be a beautiful day with a beautiful couple.

Here are some cute quirks about Erin + Colin’s romance and also what helped inspire them for their engagement session.

1. How did you and your fiancé meet?
Despite living in the same town all our lives, going to the same HS, and knowing a handful of the same people, we actually met online. Thank you OkCupid!

2. How did your fiancé propose?
Like all epic romantic proposals, my fiancé proposed to me in the bathroom! I was in a towel, wet hair and make-up half done! And of course, the ever-patient person I am said a snarky remark about not being engaged. Little did I know, Colin decided to propose to me the next time I said something snarky! He walked out like he was mad at me and a minute later put the ring on the bathroom counter and said NOTHING! I honestly thought it was fake and a joke, because it wouldn’t have been the first time he faked me out (not intentionally of course). I stood there crying until I finally said “are you for real?” And I got a “yeah”. And then he still said nothing! Through tears I said, “are you going to ask?” And he said, “well will you?”. Obviously, I said yes! Getting ready to go out to dinner that night was a chore and I really could have stayed home in my sweat pants and cried the rest of the night, But, we made it to dinner and celebrated just the two of us!

3. What were your thoughts when choosing your engagement session location?
Colin is a very proud electrical lineman, it is a very important aspect of his life; it’s more than a job or career, it’s a calling. I respect so much what he does for a living, and am beyond excited to call myself a “line wife”. Upon researching how to incorporate linework into our wedding I stumbled upon some pictures of linemen engagement photos! Now, most of these look like they were taken in Cow town USA, so I told Colin to be on the lookout for a cool location where we can do pictures like these in New Jersey! You know, not on the side of a major road where our photographer would run the risk of getting hit by a car. Colin was on a job and found this awesome gem running through the woods and right by a lake! And by some miracle, it rained a lot and by the time of our photo[shoot], the area was lush and green, as opposed to dead and literally covered in dirt and mud when I saw it a month from the scheduled session! We really got so lucky!

4. Describe your wardrobe and accessories that were worn for your engagement session. What inspired your choices?
I honestly wanted to be comfortable, but still, look really pretty! I was going to wear pants at first but it was so hot that day and the dress that I was going to change into was gonna be the outfit for the whole thing! And the necklace I swiped from my friend, love statement necklaces! And sandals because that’s the kind of people we are! Flip flops all year if possible!!

5. If you brought props to your engagement session, what inspired your choice of props for the shoot?
I had made a sign with our date on it because I am obsessed with burlap! Colin had his climbing gear because he had to climb the pole that was covered in ticks, glad it wasn’t me! Does our dog count as a prop? If so, because we love her and she is stinkin’ cute!

What a cute story. I love that E+C went out to celebrate their engagement just the two of them!NJ Wedding Photography_0181.jpg
