The moment that almost went wrong… and why it didn’t
When planning your wedding, most couples focus on pricing, packages, and availability. But there is something even more important that often gets overlooked.
Vendor chemistry.
In Episode 5 of We Love That for You, Chris and Jackie share a real wedding story that highlights exactly how vendor teamwork can make or break your day. From unexpected challenges to quick decision making, this episode reveals what truly happens behind the scenes at a wedding.
If you are planning a New Jersey wedding and want a smooth, stress free experience, understanding how your vendor team works together is essential.

The Wedding Story That Proves Everything
This happened during introductions.
The room was full. Energy was high. Everything was building exactly the way it should.
And then something shifted.
Mid-introduction, Chris noticed the photographer had a look of panic. Something was clearly wrong.
As smoothly as he could, he did a quick check in with the photographer to see what was going on. Her camera had malfunctioned. No backup in hand. And the next moment on the timeline was the first dance.
A once in a lifetime moment… about to go undocumented. There was no time to pause. No time to explain. No time to panic. So instead, the timeline pivoted.
Instead of going straight into the first dance, Chris opened the dance floor. High energy. Guests engaged. The couple still having an amazing time.
Behind the scenes, the photographer fixed the issue.
Ten minutes later, everything reset. The couple sat down. The first dance happened exactly the way it was meant to.
Fully captured. Fully experienced. Fully protected.
That’s what happens when your vendors share mutual respect and a clear goal, instead of just showing up to execute their individual role.

Why Vendor Chemistry Matters on Your NJ Wedding Day
Most couples never see what’s happening behind the scenes, but (if you choose the right team) your wedding vendors are constantly communicating, adjusting, and supporting each other in real time.
When that chemistry is there, everything feels effortless.
- Your DJ is leading the flow of the night
Not just playing music, but controlling timing, energy, and transitions. - Your photographer and videographer are working together
Not competing for moments, but anticipating each other. - Your team is solving problems before you ever notice them
So you stay fully present.
That is the difference between a wedding that feels stressful… and one that feels seamless.

What Couples Don’t See Behind the Scenes
Weddings are live events with no pause button. And even when everything is planned perfectly, things can still shift in the moment.
Here’s what’s actually happening behind the scenes:
- Timeline adjustments happening in seconds
- Vendors quietly communicating during key moments
- Decisions being made to protect photos, video, and flow
- Constant check-ins before introductions, dances, and speeches
The best teams do all of this without ever pulling you out of the moment.
If they are doing it right, you will never even know something needed to be fixed.

The Difference Between Hobby Wedding Vendors and Professionals in New Jersey
Anyone can perform when everything goes according to plan… Professionals stand out when it doesn’t.
This is what you’re investing in when you choose a professional over a hobbyist:
- Preparation
Professionals show up with backup equipment. Redundancy is not optional. - Experience under pressure
No panic. Just action. - Ability to pivot
Knowing how to adjust a timeline without disrupting the guest experience. - Communication
Keeping other vendors aligned in real time.
An inexperienced vendor might freeze. Or worse, continue forward and let the moment fail.
A professional protects the moment.

Why Backup Equipment and Preparation Matter for NJ Wedding Days
Let’s be real for a second. Technology fails.
Cameras. Audio. Lighting. It happens. The difference is whether your team is prepared for it.
From this story alone, here’s what matters:
- Photographers should have multiple cameras ready
- There should be a second photographer whenever possible
- Vendors should have backup plans for key moments
- Your team should expect things to go wrong and be ready to handle it
Because your wedding day is not something you get to redo.

How to Choose NJ Wedding Vendors Who Work as a Team
So how do you actually make sure this doesn’t happen to you?
It starts with choosing the right team.
Here’s what to look for:
- Strong communication from the start
Do they guide you clearly, or are you chasing answers? - Real team experience
Do they regularly work together, or are they meeting for the first time on your wedding day? - Collaboration, not ego
Do they talk about working with other vendors, or only about themselves? - Clear processes
Do they explain how they handle timelines, coordination, and unexpected situations? - Preparation and professionalism
Do they talk about backups, systems, and real experience?
Because at the end of the day, you are not just hiring vendors. You are hiring a team.

Final Thoughts: Your Wedding Is a Live Event
Here’s the truth most couples don’t hear enough: Things can go wrong. Timelines shift. Equipment fails. Moments are fleeting.
But the right team makes sure you never feel it. That is what you are really investing in.
Not just a photographer. Not just a DJ. Not just a videographer.
A group of people who communicate, adapt, and protect your experience in real time.

Excellent. What are we talking about today?
0:18
So, today’s episode is one of those “you had to be there” moments. But since our viewers weren’t, we’re going to take them there.
And last episode, we talked about vendor chemistry. The chemistry between our couples and their vendors, but also the chemistry between the vendors themselves.
0:42
So today, we’ve got a story that proves exactly why vendor-to-vendor chemistry can make or break a wedding day, with one of your stories. This is obviously a moment you’re never going to forget.
1:00
Do you remember the story you told me about that time you noticed something felt off with a photographer during introductions? You were tapped into their energy and just knew something was going on. Tell us about it.
1:23
Yeah, definitely. So, really quick recap. Vendor-to-vendor chemistry is all about mutual respect, working smoothly together, and understanding the overall goal.
The goal is to provide our clients with the best possible experience on their wedding day. We all have to be on the same page to deliver a smooth, flawless day.
2:01
So, I was getting ready to do my welcome and reception introductions. I go outside, line up the parents and wedding party, get the couple hyped, then walk out onto the floor and start introducing everyone.
2:30
About halfway through the wedding party, I noticed something was off with the photographer. They had this look of panic.
2:40
I’m thinking, I need to figure out what’s going on, but I also need to make this look smooth for the 200 people staring at me.
3:05
I can’t just stop and have a conversation. So right before introducing the couple, I hyped up the crowd.
3:28
“Alright everyone, who’s ready for the bride and groom?”
That gave me a few seconds while everyone was cheering. I ran over to the photographer and asked what was going on.
3:52
Her camera was malfunctioning. No backup camera. She was freaking out because she thought she was going to miss the first dance.
4:10
So I said, “Don’t worry, I got you.”
This all happened in less than 10 seconds. I didn’t fully have a plan yet, but I knew we had to pivot.
4:28
I introduced the couple, they came in, everyone was excited, and instead of going right into the first dance, I switched things up completely.
4:51
I said, “Let’s get this party started. Everyone out on the dance floor.”
I signaled my assistant to play something high energy, and we opened the dance floor instead.
5:14
The couple was a little confused at first, so I went right over and explained:
“Hey, we had to switch things up. We had a camera issue, and I want to make sure your first dance is fully captured.”
5:37
They were so thankful. They were like, “Oh my God, that was amazing. I can’t believe you pulled that off so quickly.”
6:14
We danced for about 10 minutes. The photographer fixed the camera, and then we sat everyone down and went into the first dance, parent dances, and speeches.
6:35
Later, the couple came up and said, “We don’t know what we would have done without you.”
That felt really good.
7:00
Was that instinct, experience, or both?
7:27
All of the above. Experience is huge. An inexperienced DJ might panic and think, “I don’t know what to do.”
7:46
If you panic, it’s not going to look smooth. Guests will feel that something’s off.
8:11
True professionals understand this is a live event. You have to react and go with the flow.
8:49
You need that instinct to stay on your toes and pivot when needed.
9:06
“The show must go on.”
9:30
When you hire a strong vendor team, you should absolutely expect a seamless production.
10:04
That’s why hiring vendors who work together regularly or are part of a team is so important.
10:23
I can work with anyone, but not all vendors have that same mindset. Some let ego get in the way.
10:35
They focus on their own service instead of the overall experience.
11:00
I’ve seen situations where photographers weren’t ready, and it delayed everything.
11:53
It all comes back to communication and mutual respect.
12:42
Are you here to serve the couple, or are you focused on yourself?
13:47
Good communication and vendor chemistry make all the difference.
14:03
When you have a team that works together regularly, you get the smoothest experience possible.
14:27
Most couples don’t realize how much vendors support each other behind the scenes.
14:46
But if you hire a team you trust, you shouldn’t even have to think about it.
15:16
There are so many moving parts on a wedding day. It takes teamwork to make everything run smoothly.
15:33
What separates great vendors? Mutual respect, communication, and understanding the end goal.
16:06
Sometimes it’s as simple as introducing yourself at the beginning of the day.
16:23
I always tell photographers and videographers what’s coming next so they’re ready.
16:38
That level of communication makes a huge difference.
17:07
When vendors don’t communicate, it creates stress and missed moments.
18:00
I’ve had moments where I was completely unprepared because no one told me what was happening.
18:43
It all comes back to communication and respect.
19:31
How does a DJ and photographer working together make the day smoother?
19:48
Constant check-ins. Making sure everyone is ready before each moment.
20:22
Before introductions, I check with the photo and video team.
20:57
Before speeches, I check again.
21:32
That ensures everything runs smoothly.
21:40
On the flip side, photographers should also communicate if they’re taking the couple away.
22:30
That way, we don’t play important songs while they’re not in the room.
23:14
What advice would you give couples choosing a photographer?
23:38
Hire a true professional with backup equipment. Always have a second photographer.
24:15
There should always be redundancy so no moment is missed.
24:47
Live events require backup plans. Always.
25:03
Does this show the difference between hobby vendors and professionals? Absolutely.
25:17
The takeaway is simple. Hire professionals who work well together and come prepared.
25:37
In the next episode, we’ll break down the questions you need to ask your photographer.
