Putting The You In Music!

The Dos and Don’ts of Choosing A Wedding Soundtrack in 2020

Like it or not, the playlist can make or break your wedding. No matter your taste and budget, follow our step-by-step guide to guarantee a truly unforgettable celebration.

Do Not, I repeat, Do. Not.:

  • Make Guests Sit in Silence

because you haven’t walked down the aisle doesn’t mean the ceremony hasn’t started! Put together a solid pre-nuptials playlist for guests to enjoy while they find their seats and await your entrance. Consider pairing it with a slideshow of you and your hubby for a fun twist.

  • Wait to Meet The Team

Your Wedding Planner isn’t the only one on the books. From the florist to the flutist, take the time to meet, greet, and get to know your whole event team. Not only will the effort show them that you care, but it will help to reduce your own stress and anxiety as the big day nears.

  • Stick to One Genre

Show your guests some respect and switch it up. Mix a healthy portion of traditional tunes with modern hits and classic boogies, keeping everyone on their toes (literally!) all night long. If you’re at a loss for suggestions, consult with your Wedding Planner or Wedding DJ for direction.

By All Means, Do:

  • Select Meaningful Music

Once the nuptials are said and Pachelbel’s Canon in D has faded, the floor is yours for creativity. Though you’ll want a healthy dose of classics, intersperse your soundtrack with tunes that have significance for your relationship. Think back to happy memories you’ve shared with your loved one, rounding out your playlist with songs that will bring you back.

  • Consult the Experts

Unless you’re a Wedding Planner, don’t try to be a wedding planner. (Seriously.)  Hire the best your budget can afford and communicate your needs clearly with everyone involved. Ask for guidance, seek support, and don’t be afraid to stand your ground (but be willing to consider feedback) when it comes to details, big or small.

  • Consult the Charts

Unless you’re going with an early Nineties theme, there’s no need to play 98 Degrees all night. (We beg you.) Juice up your playlist with an age-appropriate sprinkling of pop favorites but consult the charts for modern and classic go-tos. Harness the power of the internet to research top hits for your genre of choice.

  • Share Your Playlist

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of your life, and you deserve to remember it forever. In addition to the traditional photos and videos, engrave your wedding in everyone’s mind with a custom playlist of the night’s most popular tunes. Include a shareable link in wedding favors, or a cassette tape for vintage effect.

  • Do A Run Through

Two left footers beware: this one is for you. Run through your ceremony AND reception with your whole event team, checking to make sure that all parties are on the same page. Have a back-up plan for everything and leave nothing for the final day. For a delightful twist, choreograph a dance to surprise guests.

We Can't Wait to Hear From You.
