- Splurge on your room. Frequently when you travel, you can skimp on your accommodations because you do not plan on spending a lot of time in your room. Your honeymoon is probably not one of those times.
- Turn off your phone, ditch your tablet, and leave your computer behind. We are so used to being connected all the time that most of us think nothing about checking messages, Facebook, or email, but it keeps you from being in the moment. Your friends, family, and work might not even realize that they are interrupting your honeymoon if they try to contact you when you are away. Give a few trusted individuals an emergency contact number at your hotel and step away from the rest of the world for the duration of your honeymoon.
- Consider all-inclusive options. Money is one of the main causes of stress for couples; choosing an all-inclusive vacation option means that you are not going to be fighting about the ongoing costs of your vacation.
- Use more sunscreen than you think you need. Nothing ruins a honeymoon faster than a serious sunburn. It not only keeps you from enjoying outdoor activities, but puts the brakes on romantic activities.
- Drink in moderation. Some of us are pleasant drunks, some of us are not. You know which one you are. It is fine to let loose and have a great time on your honeymoon; that is what honeymoons are for, after all. However, if there is even a remote chance that you getting loose is going to end with your new spouse in tears because you have said or done something hateful, then just do not let yourself go there.
- Pack an emergency medical kit. Make sure you have any medication you regularly take, backup birth control if you use a method where failure is an option, medication for potential minor medical emergencies like headaches, allergies, stomach distress, and cystitis. If you are traveling to an international location where water safety is a concern, take bottled water with you.
